 Keynote Speakers

We are excited to announce that the keynotes for this year’s conference are Dr. Susan Holtzman and Dr. Rasika Rajapakshe.

Dr. Susan Holtzman is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at UBCO. Her research and teachings are in health psychology, chronic illness, stress and coping, and mental health. Specifically, Dr. Holtzman researches the pathways through which the social environment can influence physical and emotional well-being in healthy and chronically ill populations, and how close relationships can help or hinder patients’ efforts to cope with their disease.

Dr. Rasika Rajapakshe is a senior medical physicist at the Center for the Southern Interior of the BC Cancer Agency in Kelowna as well as an adjunct professor of Computer Science at UBCO. He founded the Early Detection Research Group in 2008 following his own experience with cancer. His research is in health and medical imaging informatics, image guidance in radiation therapy, cancer risk modelling and web and mobile technologies in health care. His teachings offer students a unique perspective into the applications of data science, computer science and physics within the health care system.
